Seeking Purity in Motivation
The perennial philosophy of the Vedas teaches us that the quality and strength of action stem from the purity of the motivation behind it. From an ethically and spiritually elevated motivation comes both the strength to act righteously and the ability to inspire others. Strength is born of purity, and purity generates transparency.
Just as one can perceive an object lying at the bottom of clear water, whereas in murky water this is impossible, so too a mind veiled, clouded, and darkened by conditioning cannot see or discern the truth. To succeed, one must cultivate a state of transparency and inner purity.
Even in communication, to be successful, a good disposition is more essential than ever, both in the one who speaks and in the one who listens.
When either interlocutor lacks such sensitivity and commitment, dialogue cannot unfold in the best way and will not bear the hoped-for fruits.
The speaker’s intense desire alone is not enough: equally intense and clear attention is required on the part of the listener.
In any endeavor, our disposition plays a decisive role. If there is no right attitude, there can be no true success: authentic success is spiritual, aimed at our evolutionary development. Everything else lacks substance, is not lasting, and has no real value.
